August saw the start of production for the External and Internal signage for The Design Museum in Kensington, due to open 28th November.
The relocation into the home of the former Commonwealth Institute, will see the museum’s current exhibition spaces triple in size to almost 100,000 sq ft. Such a significant move will enable the museum to accommodate its first permanent display of its collection, alongside two temporary exhibitions.
Appointed by Willmott Dixon, who are carrying out the £20m fit-out, Cobal have worked very closely with the architects: John Pawson and graphic designers: Cartlidge Levene in devising a complex signage scheme. A wide range of materials have been carefully selected, with designs incorporating Oak lettering to flag poles.
