Stress is a natural response to dealing with difficult, worrying or high-pressure situations. Within the workplace or other large spaces such as shopping centres, hotels or sport and leisure facilities, the environment can have an eff ect on the mood of staff or customers. Stress has been proven to reduce productivity and contribute to poorer workplace performance and diminished staff retention.
With a view to reducing stress in the built environment, companies are becoming increasingly aware of strategies and physical designs that may help improve energy and mood, particularly in urban spaces, which can be instrumental in increasing mental wellbeing. A well considered environmental design can contribute to a more positive mood.
We collaborate on projects where there is a large focus on incorporating natural colours and elements and utilising sustainable materials to enhance the aesthetic appeal. Using biophilic design on signage and environmental graphics, encompassing designs based on features of nature, is one way to help beat stress and boost your mood. These calming visuals are designed to improve mental wellbeing and professional performance.

April is Stress Awareness Month.
The theme for 2025 is ‘Lead With Love’, encouraging kindness and compassion. Observed every April since 1992, Stress Awareness Month aims to increase awareness about what causes stress and how it can be overcome.
To help combat stress in the workplace, companies are increasingly asking for our help with signage and ambient environmental graphics in appropriate welfare areas such as:
🗸 quiet zones
🗸 neurodivergent zones
🗸 distraction-free workspaces
🗸 welcoming communal areas
🗸 office pods
🗸 gyms
Balancing professionalism with wellbeing contributes to improved employee mental health. Promoting staff welfare in the workplace setting can significantly improve inclusivity, cognitive function and performance, productivity and reduce stress.
